On Tuesday, June 18, while divers throughout Northern Virginia are participating in their first meet of the season, three current and former NVSL divers will be warming up in Knoxville, Tennessee to compete in the 2024 Olympic Trials.
Nathaniel Grannis of Wakefield Chapel,
Grayson Campbell of Vienna Woods, and
Greg Duncan of Dunn Loring are all entered in Men's three meter synchronized diving. If you scroll back far enough in our handbook, you can find them all diving as intermediates, juniors, and freshmen in the NVSL. Nathaniel Grannis won our synchronized diving event at the Wally Martin meet as recently as two years ago. These young people all got their start learning to dive and to love diving at their neighborhood pools.
On Monday, June 17,
Anne Fowler of Walden Glen will be diving with her partner Caroline Sculti of Mission Viejo Nadadores, where
John Appleman of Rolling Hills is the head coach. John and
Matt Scoggin of Great Falls, a member of the 1992 Olympic team and now the longtime coach at the University of Texas and Longhorn Aquatics, will be coaching three of the seven pairs on women's synchronized three meter. John Appleman also coaches two of the six pairs in the men's event. Anne will also compete later in the week in women's three meter, as will
Max Flory of Sideburn Run, who will dive in the men's platform event.
On Thursday, men's three meter will again feature Grayson Campbell and Greg Duncan, who will be joined by
Manny Borowski of Tuckahoe,
Max Fowler, (coached by
John Ames, another NVSL product), and
Dylan Reed of Hamlet who finished 16th in his first All Stars in 10 and Under, but stayed with the sport anyway.
The Olympic Trials will be on NBC and Peacock beginning June 17 and continuing through June 23. Tune in and cheer on our NVSL graduates on the big stage.
