If you missed it, here's the recording of the coaches clinic recoreded on June 7.
Here are a few references for referees and judges, especially for our new judges. The more dives you see, the better your judging ability gets. The National Federation of High Schools (NFHS.org) has the following two references for judging diving:
1. Video Library provides 2–5-minute videos of dives (from each dive group), suggested score ranges, and a short analysis of the dive execution. I’d suggest you view each segment full screen and pause each dive to better understand the analysis. The individual dives vary considerably in diver ability and show some significant deficiencies that you may need to consider. The score range is also the same way we instruct our NVSL judges – put the dive in a category first.
2. NFHSLearn | Interscholastic Education, Made Easy provides the basics for judging springboard diving. The course itself is entitled “Judging Springboard Diving.” It’s a free course and lets you practice judging at the end. Be aware that there are some nuances between high school and NVSL rules, but this course is worth the time.
I would encourage all our NVSL judges to review these references to get more experience in judging diving.
